Coke was a significant influence on the development of American law during the Early Republic. 

Description

Sir Edward Coke, barrister, politician, and jurist, was born on 1 February 1552 at Mileham, Norfolk, England. After study at Trinity College and admission to the bar, he was elected to Parliament. He would serve as solicitor general, speaker of the Commons, and attorney general before his appointments as chief justice of the Common Pleas (1606) and chief justice of the King's Bench (1613).
