Ichabod Nichols (1784–1859)
Ichabod Nichols was born on 5 July 1784 in Portsmouth, New Hampshire. He graduated from Harvard in 1802 and was later awarded an honorary Doctorate in Divinity from Bowdoin College. A Unitarian, Nichols served from 1809 to 1859 as reverend of the First Parish Church in Portland, Maine. He married twice: to Dorothea Folsom Gilman (1784–1831) in 1810 and to Martha Salisbury Higginson (1801–1889) in 1832. Nichols and Gilman had two sons who reached adulthood. Ichabod Nichols died on New Year's Day 1859 in Cambridge, Massachusetts.
