My dear Brother

Fickleness is not only always distressing the mind of the Man it attacks; but is often, in its consequences, exceedingly distructive to his circumstances; both of these I have experienced in some degree in my late attempt to move my Family to Berkley, which I declined merely to satisfy a few worthy Friends in this neighbourhood. Expecting to move off in a month or two, I sold some of my property that I cannot well do without now, and consequently my Family will be subjected to many disagreeable inconveniences. Among other things, I sold my Bacon, which obliges me to keep the Bacon I cured for you here, to be replaced with what I had cured in Berkley against I moved up— Next Month I shall, God Willing, set out for that place, and will then send your Bacon down to Alexandria by some safe Waggoner— Yr hogs lard I will send up by the first safe conveyance— Robt B. Carter has lately returned to westmoreland, so that I expect soon to have his Bond Settled agreeable to your wish. The late unaccountable warm weather has rendered us remarkably sickly in this lower Country, and has produced several deaths— Our poor Aunt Smith died at Bushfield on Friday last— My Mother is now at Haywood attending my Sister, who is very unwell now, and has been very ill. Hannah joins me in love & best wishes for the health & happiness of yourself & my Sister. I am Dr Brother with love & Affection Yr sincere friend
