To William Augustine Washington

My dear Sir

Having a large sum of mony to pay to Mr Bernard, I shall be obliged to get my nephew to carry it down to him. He will call at Haywood, but as well on account of his health as of his studies I hope he will not remain in the lower Country more than a day or two, unless you should wish otherwise.

A meeting of the executors will take place on the 29th inst. for the purpose of making conveyances to the land purchasers, and as you will not be present, I send such of the deeds as are ready for you to execute, which you will do before 3 Witnesses, & when you come up you can acknowlege it before 3 other Witnesses for the purpose of recording. We shall take mortgages from the purchasers and then proceed to the collection & distribution of the mony amongst the creditor Legatees, or to assign the mortgages to them if it can be done.

I hope Mr Lewis has finished his survey & division of the Western lands by this time, but we have not lately heard from him. With best respects to Mrs W. I am My dear Sir yr sincere friend & affect. Ser.

fill up the blanks in the deeds.

Bushrod wishes to go with us this fall to the Northward, and if it consists with your convenience that he should do so, I think he will profit by the Journey. He is certainly at that time of life when he ought to see something of the manners of his Countrymen out of his own State. He will improve by mixing with the genteel people of Phila. and attending to the conversation of sensible men, independent of the advantage to be derived from attending the Courts & hearing the arguments of able lawyers. We shall set out about the 20th of Sept.
