Description

Richard Smith was born in Maryland on 18 May 1786. From 1816 to 1836 he was the cashier of the Washington, D.C., branch of the Second Bank of the United States. Afterwards Smith held the same position with the Bank of the Metropolis. In 1811 he married Covington Mackall (17951876). Smith, a friend and trustee of Dolley Payne Todd Madison, died on 29 March 1864 in Washington, D.C.
