To F. Peyton

Dear Sir

Since my return from the Northward I am informed by Mr Lewis that Mr Peter and Mr Custis having orders upon us from Doctor Stewart for £350 each have refused to accept our orders upon your favour for that amount. This will oblige us to appropriate to you a fund which we had laid by for Doctor Stewart in case he should obtain a decree against us and as I consider this more likely to be immediately productive than those for which it is exchanged I can have no doubt but that you will prefer it, Upon your signifying your acceptance of this offer to Mr Lewis or myself we will send you an order on Mr Shephard at difficult run for as much as will replace the sums for whi[c]h the Doctor has drawn in favour of Peter & Custis, The money has been due for sometime. Shephard is very able and I suppos[e] will pay at once. I am Dr Sir Sincerely & respectfully yours

Bush. Washington

I go to Richmond today & shall be absent about a fortnight.
