Rachel Farmer advertised as follows in the 16 April 1781 edition of the Pennsylvania Packet, a Philadelphia newspaper: "Rachel Farmer, begs leave to inform the Public, and her Friends and Acquaintance in particular that she has left New Brunswick, in Jersey, and taken a genteel House in Spruce-street, between Second and Front-streets, where she takes in Gentlemen Lodgers, and flatters herself that, with the great convenience of her house and her own long experience in that way, she will be able to give good satisfaction to all who please to favor her with their custom."
