Thomas Porter (d. 1800)

Description

Thomas Porter was a partner in an Alexandria, Virginia, merchandising firm. In 1788 he married Sarah (Sally) Ramsay (d. 1832), daughter of Alexandria co-founder William Ramsay. Porter was friends with a nephew of George Washington, and a contemporary referred to him as "a great favorite at Mount Vernon." He served on Alexandria’s Common Council and was a member of the Old Presbyterian Meeting House, where he is buried. Thomas Porter died from fever in 1800.
