Richard Rush (1780–1859)
Richard Rush, the son of noted physician Benjamin Rush, was born in Philadelphia on 29 August 1780. The youngest graduate in his class at what is now Princeton University, Rush was admitted to the bar at the age of twenty. His legal career led to service as attorney general of Pennsylvania (1811), comptroller of the treasury (1811–14), U.S. attorney general (1814–17), U.S.
