Description

John Walker, planter and U.S. senator, was born on 13 February 1744 at Castle Hill, near Cobham, Albemarle County, Virginia. He was the son of Dr. Thomas Walker (a friend of George Washington) and Mildred Thornton Meriwether (a granddaughter of a Washington aunt). A graduate of The College of William & Mary, John became a planter at Belvoir, sat in the Virginia House of Burgesses (177276), and was an aide-de-camp to Washington during the Revolutionary War.
