Edmund Pendleton (1721–1803)
Edmund Pendleton was born on 9 September 1721 in Caroline County, Virginia. After an apprenticeship with the clerk of of the Caroline County court, he was admitted to the bar in 1741. With his 1752 election to the House of Burgesses—where he would sit for twenty-six years—Pendleton began a distinguished public career that included service as a continental congressman (1774–75), president of the Virginia Committee of Safety (1775–76), and president of the Virginia Court of Appeals (1779–1803).
