William Bingham (1752–1804)

Description

William Bingham, Pennsylvania politician and banker, was born on 8 March 1752 in Philadelphia. Following graduation from Philadelphia College, he was a consul in the West Indies from 1777 to 1780. In the latter year, Bingham married Anne Willing (1764–1801), a noted beauty and Philadelphia socialite. They had four children. Bingham served in the Continental Congress (1786-88) and the U.S. Senate (1795–1801). After leaving the Senate he retired to Bath, England. He died there on 7 February 1804, leaving behind sizable real estate in Philadelphia.
