From George Washington Ball to the Executors of the Estate of George Washington

Gentlemen,

At the request of my mother, to whom was addressed your letter of the 2nd ultimo, I communicate to you her wish upon the subject you submitted for her Consideration. The recourse had by the Executors to a Court of Chancery, with a view of fixing either upon the Representatives of Colo. Lee or the Heirs of Corbin Washington, the purchase of Aris's land in Jefferson, was no doubt proper; But expecting, as you have suggested, an appeal on the part of Lee's representatives from the decree obtained against them and consequently much delay and the present uncertainty of his personal property, even with the proceeds of the land, being adequate to the payment of the purchase money, Mrs Peyton approves of the proposition you have made to dismiss the suit, receive the land again & sell it to the best advantage. To this measure she accedes more willingly, under an impression, that it will facilitate the final settlement of the Estate, for which she feels solicitous. Yet should there not be unanimity among the Legatees upon this Subject I am authorized to declare that she is willing to be governed by the voice of the majority. I am, Gentlemen respectly yours

George W. Ball
