William Nichols (1754–1804)

Description

William Nichols was born on 28 November 1754 in Enniskillen, County Fermanagh, Ireland. Following service as an officer in two Pennsylvania regiments during the Revolutionary War, he worked as a notary, attorney, and court clerk in Philadelphia. Nichols concluded his public career as U.S. marshal for the District of Pennsylvania from 1795 to 1799. He died in Philadelphia on 19 October 1804, survived by his wife Margarete Hillegas (1760–1808, m. 1792) and two of their children.
