Gerard Alexander Jr. (1773–1853)
Alexander was the plaintiff in a long-running suit against Bushrod Washington and Lawrence Lewis, executors of the estate of George Washington.
Gerard Alexander Jr. was born on 12 December 1773 in Prince William County, Virginia. A planter and slaveowner, he also served as a colonel in the Virginia militia and represented Prince William County in the House of Burgesses (1805–10). At some point he relocated to New London, a small town in Campbell County. Alexander wed Elizabeth Ashton Alexander (1773–1815) in 1795, Matilda Anne Douglass (1783–1835) in 1819, and Elizabeth Callaway Innes (1785–1872) in 1837. He had eight children with Alexander and one with Douglass.
